Beauty tip for puffy eyes

Posted by on Feb 01 2011 | Techniques, Tools

There are many beauty queen secrets that beauty contestants hold close to their heart because they consider it a trade secret of sorts. One of these secrets was actually touched on in the movie Ms. Congeniality. In one scene Sandra Bullock’s character had puffy eyes and someone put Preparation H, a hemorrhoid ointment on her eye bags.

This may sound weird and gross, but it is actually one of the beauty queen secrets. Preparation H or any anti-hemorrhoid ointment has properties that reduce swelling and it works brilliantly with eye bags or puffy eyes. Just dab on the ointment to the affected area and in no time, the puffiness will subside.

Make-Over’s

Posted by on Dec 10 2010 | Basics, Techniques

hair_redo.jpgThey are not only the latest rage in reality TV shows, they are also necessary to maintain your look and youthful appearance. Go out on the store once every two years spending time in the cosmetics section to get the ho-down on the latest make-up, techniques and the proper ways to use them. Frequent the ones who have professional make-up artists as sales staff for they are the ones who can give you the best possible combination of products that will work (really, and not just because the product comes from the best and priciest manufacturer). Oily skin, use non-oil based make-up or water-based stuff that won’t add to your already oily face.

Just How Much Make-up is enough

Posted by on Nov 10 2010 | Basics, people, Real-life, Techniques

toomuch.jpgMany people feel obliged to put on heavy make-up due to age and other signs that manifest on their faces, wrong. The more, the thicker the make-up you have on you, the older you look. Nothing beats your natural skin tone and your face’s shapes and features. Use make-up instead to emphasize the ones that make your face desirable and always remember, the less the younger you look. Ever see those old celebrities who look like Barbie dolls (plastic looking faces), they use heavy make-up to hide stuff they do not want others to see such as stretch marks, scars from face lifts and other cosmetic procedures they have had to go through as the years go by. Remember, make-up only changes the look and not the person so whatever is underneath all that make-up will show (if it doesn’t melt under the hot spotlights first).

cosmetics.jpgEven the best and most expensive make-up would be useless if you do not have the proper tools to use or apply them with. Even the supermodel Tyra admits that there is little or no difference at all from make-up you buy at the corner store as opposed to the one you get at the more pricy specialty ones if it were not for technique. Invest in good sets of foams, brushes and other specialty applicators to bring out the best of your make-up whatever the brand. Check out the many beauty sites for proper application and techniques that come with each product to maximize their strengths as they complement each other in order to attain your desired look.

Lipids and Youthful looks

Posted by on Sep 10 2010 | Basics, Real-life, Techniques

lipids.jpgLoosing the lipid barrier by washing off with harsh cleansers strips it off the natural protection of your skin making it look dry and looking old. One expert recommends using good old Vaseline, which you simply apply liberally and wipe out along with your make-up. It also makes for good lipstick remover which does not irritate the lips. Simply wipe it off and as an added bonus, it softens your lips especially during cold weather when they are at most risk from chapping and dryness. Using sun block may be your best bet to delay having to reach for that anti-ageing crème. Yes, prevention is better than a pound of care or better yet the high cost of anti-ageing crèmes. Before slathering on your anti-ageing crème, use sun block first for it protects your skin from further damage by the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Youthful skin – Really

Posted by on Aug 10 2010 | Basics, Techniques

youthskin.jpgMoisturizers can be the best solution to preventing aged skin. Many fail to realize that the face, like most parts of the body needs the best protection from pollution, irritants and of course the sun’s harmful rays. Try to get at a regimen that would not only work for you but can be used frequently enough without worrying about damaging your skin. When you get home, clean off all your make-up as much as possible. Cleansers will work as long as they are not too harsh that they strip away the natural lipid protection of your skin that makes it look young. Lipids are actually the natural oil barrier your skin should love rather than hate. Not all oil on your face is bad and stripping away too much can leave it drier as sand on the beach on a hot sunny day.

Beni – Japanese Geisha Lipstick

Posted by on Nov 21 2009 | History, Techniques

beni.jpgAs it turns out, Geisha or the ultimate entertainers of Japan were truly trendsetters in the arena of beauty not only for their exceptional skills at the Japanese performing arts (they’re not PROSTITUTES). They have been using all-natural make-up for centuries which was taken out of style as Western style lipstick and other beauty products began to flood the market. A Japanese cosmetics firm named Isehan-Honten is ensuing the revival of the all natural make-up that was part of Japanese culture for millennia by releasing the world’s most expensive lipstick. Beni is extracted from orange-petaled safflower which has the peculiar habit of having its most color before the sun rises (so they are picked before the sun rises) in July at Japan’s Yamagata Mountains. They are soaked, steamed to make a compound that turns red when water is applied. Richness of the color can be changed with the amount of water that is applied, ranging from pale pink to rich ruby red. The lipstick costs around 70,000 to 300,000 Japanese Yen which translates to around 335 to almost 1,500 British Pounds!

Stem Cells, making old skin new again

Posted by on Aug 17 2009 | Basics, Real-life, Techniques, Tools

amatokin.jpgYou’ve heard of them and they’ve been debated on for years, stem cells or the body’s super cells that have the ability to turn into just about any type pf cell inside the human body with a few hormones and genes thrown into the mix to make it all work out. Many say the beauty crèmes you get off the shelf for a dollar and the way pricy stuff you get form stores have just the same effects and ingredients, wrong! Well for this one product that is, Amatokin(R) which was developed in a high security lab surrounded by guards that are armed to the teeth with sub-machine guns in some small corner of Russia where they were working on some product to allow the healing and renewal of skin for burn victims (most beauty products have roots in the drive to discover and develop products for burn victims if you’d like to know) when they came upon polypeptide#153 which has rejuvenation effects for skin and promised to be a revolution in the cosmetics industry. Most anti-ageing compounds and products come from research in genetics and stem cells which has benefited millions of women world wide. The research is top secret and you would know why, who doesn’t want ageless skin?

Beauty Myths – Hair Stuff

Posted by on Jun 09 2009 | Basics, Real-life, Techniques

hair.jpgThere are a lot of beauty myths around which makes attaining perfect beauty a little harder, in this post we will tackle some of them in hopes of ending the fears people have about their bodies and maintaining that youthful glow. Let’s begin with hair, that all crowning glory of your physiology, there are myths that say you must not pluck hair or ten would grow in it’s place, that is very much false for there is no way that ten hairs would grow from just one single follicle. But do stay away from that gray hair for if you do pluck it, the one that grown in it’s place would lie flat giving the impression of thinning hair. A better option would be to color it and leave it be. What ever your ethnic background, we will all loose hair as we age and that has been the focus of many studies from the hair transplantation business. Better delay or prevent loss that have to add more to get more.
